About me

I’m a qualified Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist and Counsellor (Registered Member BACP no: 00922450) with over 27 years' experience and have provided around 25,000 treatment hours for clients in a flexible and individually tailored approach.

From 1999 to 2002 I lectured on a BACP Accredited counselling course at the Liverpool Community College, and between 1997 and 2019 I was director at the Liverpool Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy (LCCP); passing on the business to two of my colleagues (who renamed it The Liverpool Psychotherapy and Counselling Centre).

I established my online psychotherapy and counselling practice while in Liverpool, expanding it after I moved away from the city. I have continued to provide the same levels of service that the Liverpool Centre had became known and trusted for under my leadership.

Why have therapy online?

Online therapy offers you flexibility, cost savings and comfort. You can talk to me at home, on your lunch break, while away working or studying, of an evening or first thing in the morning - and you can do it wherever you're comfortable, at your own pace. There’s no need to pay travel costs or negotiate traffic delays. Just log in at the appointed time and I’ll be there.

'Throughout my time as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I have worked hard to understand people from a real perspective, not just from a textbook one. I don't believe I can help someone without first really tuning in to who they are, to properly listen to what they have to say and understand how they see themselves and their world’.

— Peter Banczyk

Many of my current clients are NHS professionals, students, people working abroad and in remote locations, those who work shifts and, well, pretty much everyone else! We can use Face Time, Zoom, Skype or Whats App – whatever each person prefers.

What happens in an online therapy session?

In your very first appointment, we'll discuss boundaries, confidentiality, and what you need in more detail. I'll get a good understanding of your situation and any challenges you are experiencing, to help me understand you better. Then we can together figure out which is the best approach and direction for you to take. Your first appointment is an assessment, and it may also feature some counselling and therapy if we agree to do this.

In ongoing sessions, just as with face-to-face therapy sessions, we follow a pattern of enquiry; finding out about what you are facing and what you want to achieve, attunement; understanding the challenges involved, and engaging mobilisation for change; helping you put into action changes, and make solutions to problems that have previously been perceived as unsolvable.

Before you commence with working remotely, I want you to be comfortable it is right for you, so offer a free one hour consultation online, where you can ask questions you may have and decide if my experience and way of approaching therapy fits your needs.

Sessions take place over Face Time, Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp and you can book your first consultation using the button below.
